So I realized that I haven't mentioned how toilet training has gone since we started almost three weeks ago. So here's the update:
It went REALLY well the first week. Second week- almost NO complete successes. And now, we are about half success and half partial success.
Now let me define success: to us, toilet training success is when Ezra tells us he needs to go to the toilet (usually by saying "Uh oh", or just running in the direction of the bathroom) and starts and finishes on the toilet. Partial success is when he starts peeing wherever, and finishes on the toilet, and unsuccessful is when he just pees and tells me after it happens.
He's much more consistent with going number 2. Which is backwards for most kids (so I hear), but I think it's because it gives him more warning than pee.
I also notice we have more complete success when we have a normal day- when we don't go out too much (or too long), when we're both home for a regular dinner, when things are going tickity-boo, he's good at the toilet. When it's a confusing day, or when things are disrupted in someway or another, not so much.
All in all, I'm glad we started, and while I do think it'll be a while before we're totally done, he's doing really well. In my opinion. I have heard of these "potty train in 3 days" or "potty train in an hour" things, and I think it's bogus. You may be able to train your child what it means in three days, but to be fully trained- that takes months. But maybe that's just me.
Oh also, we are wearing a diaper over night. We had been putting him in underwear, but he started waking up wet and with a rash (because he didn't wake up WHEN he peed, just in the morning he was wet). So we opted to night train later, when his body readjusts to not peeing in the night again, and when he's mastered the day time.
