Big Boy Bed

So after all this long and torturous crib journey, Ezra doesn't even sleep in it.

See, while we were waiting oh so long for it to arrive, we decided to throw the crib mattress that we already had on the floor and move him to a "big boy bed". When the crib arrived, we would put it together as a toddler bed, because the description of it said, "converts to a toddler bed". Our last crib was also convertible, and it came with all the parts necessary to do so. This one however, apparently does not. Because alas and alack, when it arrived, we took it out of the box, inventoried the parts, found none of them missing, however there was no guard rail. Turns out that this company's idea of a toddler bed is really a daybed, much to high to put a toddler in, and too short to put a child who's ready to sleep without a rail in. Boo urns. So we decided that we would keep Ezra on his mattress on the floor until we got him a different bed, and set the crib up closer to the time the baby comes. Annoying, but I'm not sure if I should be annoyed at myself for making that assumption, or the crib industry for not having standards on what classifies a toddler bed and what doesn't. Oh, I also checked- while you can buy a conversion kit for the crib to turn into a double bed, you cannot buy any such guard rail for a toddler. We could buy a different kind of rail- the kind you would put on a regular bed, but most of them say "not for use with toddler beds". And since we don't know what that means...the floor is where he shall stay. Nothing wrong with it.

The good news is, he took quite well to the mattress and we have not had one struggle with it. Sometimes we find him just reading to himself in the mornings, and I've witnessed him sleepily get back into bed after falling onto the floor (it's only about 5 inches off the ground).

All in all, I'm glad we moved him and I think so is he!

We have the same set up - crib mattress on the floor :) Works pretty well although Carter does not put himself back into bed if he rolls off...he may sleep on the floor for awhile and then wake up, notice where he is, and then sit or lie there upset until we come to put him back to bed :)
