Baptism

So, we had our son baptized on Sunday, May 24, which also happens to be my sister Kaylyn's birthday. Kaylyn and her fiance Jonathan are Ezra's Godparents. When Rob and I were deciding whether we would have Ezra baptized or not, we spent a lot of time praying about it- we didn't just want to baptize him because that is what our church does: baptize infants. To us, baptism is not our one-way ticket into Heaven: it is a joining of God's group of people. It is His new covenant with us, the old one being circumcision. We believe that all believers need to be baptized and we also do not believe it needs to happen in any order. God will call Ezra and Ezra will have to respond accordingly. For now, until he is old enough to chose God's path for himself, it is up to Rob and I, and his Godparents to pray for him, model a Christian life for him, and teach him all about God's love, mercy and forgiveness.
