Explaining cesarean birth to Silas

Silas is always very concerned about my stretch marks. He knows my tummy hurts sometimes and he thinks that the red lines covering my abdomen are the cause. He calls them, "mommy's tummy cracks".

The other day while examining said "cracks", he discovered my cesarean scar. So he asked me, "This from?"

The rest of the conversation went something like this:

Me- That's from when mommy had surgery when you and Ezra were born. The doctor had to cut mommy's belly to get the babies out.

Silas, very concerned- Oh! Owie! Doctor use saw?

Me- No, the doctor uses a sharp knife and makes a little cut to take out the baby. Then after the baby is out the doctor sews mommy's tummy back together and mommy has an owie for a while but mommy and the baby are ok!

Silas, still quite concerned- Owie! Doctor (sounds like Docker) use sharp knife? Oh no!

Me- Mommy's ok! The doctor gives mommy medicine and mommy is just a bit sore later but the surgery doesn't hurt mommy.

Silas, looking relieved- Oh. Mommy?

Me- Yes?

Silas, using actions and pauses- Doctor sharp knife mommy's tummy? Take baby out? Sew back up? Mommy ok? Baby ok?

Me- Yes! You got it buddy.

Silas- Ok. Mommy ok. Baby ok. Nice doctor.
