This is our new pet Betta fish. He lives in a small cube on top of our computer cabinet.

There is a long story behind why we bought a fish, but here is the short version:
Ezra and I have been talking a lot about animals- where they live, what they eat, etc. This led to the discussion of pets and Ezra stated that he would like a goldfish pet. I was thinking, "Great! Our kid wants the only pet I'm willing to own right now! And it's cheap too!"
So my mom is visiting this week and she took us to a pet store. Ezra loved it in there and we had a lot of fun. I was fully prepared to come home with a goldfish, and all the necessary paraphernalia, and when I asked him if he would like to take one home he announced, "No we shouldn't. We should get a puppy." So we went home empty handed (not because there were no puppies for sale at this store) and I was very disappointed. Ezra was not disappointed at all.
Today we went back to get ME a fish. I was excited about getting one and we were able to get the whole kit and kaboodle for $15, Betta included. Nice deal. Apparently Betta's are less work than goldfish, and cheaper- who knew? So here he is: Mortimer.
Funny thing is, Ezra is calling him "his" fish and can't stop talking about and looking at him. So much for the puppy.
